Overview

Our first fall ESLP project is creating a new garden in the small strip of land across from the pool and staff parking area. Our theme for our garden is a Recycled Garden. We used almost everything in our garden that we gathered from our own backyards. By recycling, we can hopefully encourage others to help recycle and lessen pollution around the campus and the community. We decided to use drought-tolerant plants rather than California native plants. We struggled to find California native plants at the nurseries that we went to, so we set ourselves on succulents, rosemary, and wildflower seeds instead. This way our garden has not only broad variety of plants, but the garden will be more vibrant and more colorful.

Steps to completing the garden:

1. Locate and measure the garden area
2. Gather non-living materials included in the garden (i.e rocks, wood, signs)
3. Research drought-tolerant plants, ideally those with Californian roots.
4. Find nursery with those specific plants
5. Purchase plants
6. Prep the garden area
     a. Lay a base layer of soil
     b. dig holes in the ground corresponding to the depth of the incoming plant's roots (generally 4-6 inches deep)
     c. Get help, because the ground in which we were gardening on was rock solid
     d. moisten soil
7. Place the succulents and rosemary bush into their corresponding areas.
8. Sprinkle wildflower seeds across the center of the garden
9. Water thoroughly
8. Put finishing touches on the garden
9. Clean up any mess around the pathways
10. Water occasionally until fully grown (once or twice a week)
